PAOLA, Kan. James Edward Luke Lucas, age 70, of Paola, passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2017, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, with his loving companion and caregiver by his side.
Jim was born in Ottawa, Kansas, on May 27, 1947, to Kendall and Francis Lucas. He attended school in Ottawa, Kansas. Later, he worked at the La Cygne power plant towers and at the Burlington power plant during its construction. He worked at Dunbar & Sons, in Lawrence, Kansas, and was a member of the Kansas Builder Trade Union Local 1290 and the Greater Kansas City Union.
Jim was an avid classic car lover and he enjoyed going to local car shows and spending time with his friends and family. He also enjoyed going to all the different car club cruises around the area. He belonged to the Mo-Kan Late Great Chevys.
Jim's children and grandchildren were the loves of his life. He loved spending time with his family and he took advantage of every opportunity he had as a chance to spoil his grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend, and he will be missed and remain in their hearts and thoughts forever.
He was preceded in death by: his father, Kendall Lucas; his mother, Francis Lucas; and an infant brother, Kendall Eugene Lucas.
He is survived by: Karen Lucas, his companion, best friend and caregiver of over 30 years; step-daughter, Shannon Roseberry (John), of Paola; step-son, Shawn Cook, of Rogers, Arkansas; grandchildren, Mason, Holden and Dalton Roseberry, and Michael and Kelsey Cook, of Louisburg, Kansas; two great- grandsons; sisters, Shirley Garrett, of Show Low, Arizona, Doris Bridges (Bud) and Janet Wallace; brothers, William Lucas, Charles Lucas (Amanda), of Ottawa; and his beloved dog, Sadie.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, August 17, 2017, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola, KS.
Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Friday, August 18, 2017, at the chapel.
Burial will be in Miami Memorial Gardens, 28863 W. 327 St., Paola, KS.
