Obituary for David K. Nicewander

 

David K. Nicewander, age 69 of Ottawa, KS passed away Sunday, July 17, 2016 at Richmond Health and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond, Kansas.

Mr. Nicewander was born February 6, 1947, in Ottawa, Kansas, the son of Forrest W. “Frosty” and Pearl A. (Watts) Nicewander. David attended schools in Ottawa and was a lifetime resident of Ottawa.

On August 25, 1965, he was united in marriage to Bonita S. Mendell at the Trinity Methodist Church in Ottawa. They were privileged to share more than 47 years of married life together until his wife’s passing on July 3, 2013.

David worked as an auto body and fender repairman for the family business known as Frosty’s Body Shop in Ottawa. He also was a Franklin County Sheriff Deputy from the late 1960’s until the early 1970’s. He enjoyed shooting with friends; the Native American culture while attending tribal Pow Wow’s; and caring for animals, especially his cats.

David was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Bonita. He is survived by a brother, Brad Gilges and wife Linda of Ottawa, KS; a sister, Jackie Clay of Rogers, Arkansas; and nieces, nephews and several cousins.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 21, 2016 at the Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, 325 S. Hickory, Ottawa. Inurnment will follow at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Memorial contributions may be made to Prairie Paws Animal Shelter.
